Genres are groups of similar topics of literature that are put together to help organize and categorize each writing. Genres can be changed and fixed to fit towards a certain type of audience that is trying to be targeted. For example, if you are attempting to target an older audience the genre you would use would probably not have a lot to do with technology. A blog would not help you as much as a newspaper article considering most older people don’t read blogs and tend to be old fashioned. Different types of genre can also be used to influence people and persuade them to think one way or another. Writers can do this by making the reader empathize with them and even relate their experiences to the readers past. Genres can be created in many different ways. One common technique is the mode, the way the piece is viewed by the audience, which can be in the form of written, pictures, 3D images and so on. The complement to the mode is called the medium. The medium is the where the piece is displayed whether it be the internet, in a newspaper, or on a billboard on the side of the road. The last genre in which I composed was a website for the business I worked at over winter break. The business was an indoor trampoline park that targeted kids aged 6-15. I used bright colors to hook people as soon as the click the link to the page. The point of the page was to confer a fun environment that was safe and kid friendly. I did this by using reassuring words and writing stores about past good experiences at the park. This combination of things persuaded readers to come to the park the next time their child was bored.
