Persuasive Genres

When I started to think about this post the numerous billboards I saw on my way back to campus from my hometown of Naples were the first thing that pooped into my head. So many people are advertising businesses, ideas, procedures, etc. and I knew some sort of billboard would be a perfect representation of a visual persuasive genre. The billboard I chose show a car crashing into the back of an 18-wheeler with the caption "Tailgating isn't worth it." This billboard is aimed towards all drivers but especially ones in smaller cars that have a problem with tailgating. The billboard serves to show people what can happen to them if they do not ease up on the gas while behind someone else on the road. The visual display of the billboard mainly uses pathos to inflict the emotion of fear into drivers. One of the very unique things about this billboard is the area where the car is slamming into the truck the billboard is actually crumpled up. The design of the billboard draws the attention of drivers and reaffirms the caption that indeed "Tailgating isn't worth it. If this billboard was adapted into a different form of media I believe it would fit best as a podcast. The developer of the billboard could be interviewed to find out the inspiration for the billboard and people who drive by the billboard often to see if it really effects people.
